The Islamic Revolution has cleared dust of loneliness from the face of
religion in social fields initiating man’s movement towards the Islamic
new civilization. Without the production of Islamic humanities of
knowledge, we would fail to follow up this movement. Muslim scholars
are expected to undertake this great task. The main question of this essay
is: what academic qualifications Muslim scholars must have and how
they may obtain them?
In order to meet the needs of the Revolution for the production of
knowledge, first a mujtahid (religious authority) must be an innovator
and pathfinder. For that matter and in his course of study, a would-be
authority ought to pass three levels: perception (preparatory disciplines),
assent (professorship), deep research (full professorship). At the first
level, he is expected to have a good perception of a discipline, at the
second level, he must foster his faculty of innovation through questions
and criticism without consulting references. And at the third level, he
ought to present and compare what he has learnt at the 2nd level, to
different references. Each of the three levels has its own requirements.
We may liken the scientific geometry of a religious scholar to a pyramid.
At the top is the specialization of the scholar to answer the specialized
question. In the middle are different disciplines of knowledge required by
that specialized question. On the bottom are general sciences required by
the religious scholar during the age of Revolution.
