The irony phenomenon that manifests itself in the novels of Milan Kundera, a Czech writer, is the result of a confrontation between the absolutist mind of the character, the mind captivated by stereotypes, the stereotypes of the media, and the relative and the unstable outside world, each of which reveals the mental image and expectations of the character. Because the characters in these stories live in a world full of illusions and selfishness, they never realize the inadequacy of their attitude and behavior towards the relativity of the real world. They are constantly changing their faces according to the preconceived stereotypes of their minds. This game of masks allows them, even temporarily and transiently, to achieve the illusion of a unified identity. But since reality does not reflect any absolute matter or attitude, their faith and trust in stereotypes do not last long and give way to incurable doubt and uncertainty. The confrontation of the absolute of the subject’s belief with the relativity of the world of the object reveals the emptiness and futility of the absolute. It is this very confrontation that triggers the laughter of the reader and the writer-narrator. In the present study, the author tried to examine this comic phenomenon in some stories from the Laughable Loves.
